Bertha Effron Fund

Five organizations have received grants totaling $9,681.67 from the Bertha Effron Fund.  The Bertha Effron Fund was established to preserve and strengthen Jewish culture and Jewish institutions in this area. 

Fall 2007 Grant Awards

Community Hebrew School of Dutchess County
$2,381.76

Support for a Multi-Media Center, including a mobile security station, and AV cart, three computer stations, and assorted videos and programs.

Jewish Community Center of Dutchess County
$1,500

Support for a lecture and film presentation of “The Lost Wooden Synagogues of Eastern Europe.”

Jewish Family Services of Dutchess County
$2,000

Support for Mitzvah Day, a concerted effort, on a single day, to bring the Jewish community together to spend one day volunteering for a social action project or activity.

Jewish Federation of Dutchess County
$2,000

JFDC will organize a group to march in the Salute to Israel Parade in New York City in recognition of the 60th anniversary of the formation of the State of Israel.

Vassar Temple
$1,800

Yiddish scholar and enthusiast Steven Katz will teach a 6-session course in two-hour blocks to Vassar Temple religious school students in grades 8 and 9.  The course will culminate in an inter-generational activity in which teens and senior citizens play "Yiddish Charades" for an audience of Vassar Temple members and members of other temples in the area.
